Many, many changes ...
In general, the greatest significance of Cheng Yiben is that it allows readers to see a complete book, no matter how future generations evaluate these changes, this is indelible.
But personally, these changes are very striking, Dream of Red Mansions was originally a very beautiful book, and many places have been changed to lose the artistic conception.
If you want to read the original work, you still have to watch "Fat Yan Zhai Re-evaluation of the Stone Record", the only regret is that I can only appreciate the incomplete beauty of the Red Mansion, and sigh Cao Gong's unfinished masterpiece. . .

Analysis: Cheng Jiaben of "Dream of Red Mansions" is the winter solstice of the 56th year of Qianlong (1791), 30 years after Cao Xueqin's death, and Cheng Weiyuan, the owner of Huizhou Mansion Cui Book House, printed the 80 copies of "Dream of Red Mansions" and the 40 supplements of Gao E's continuation for the first time with movable type, which is the first printing of "Dream of Red Mansions". After publication, due to the large amount of social demand, it could not be satisfied, and "because of the eagerness to make it public, the first printing was not as fine as the proofreading, and there were errors from time to time" (Gao E's introduction to the book), and in the spring of the second year (the 57th year of the Qianlong Dynasty), it was revised and typeset again, and the Qing hand school changed five or six thousand words, and the title of the return was also slightly changed, which was for Cheng Yiben, Cheng Jia, Cheng Yiben with 24 pages of drawings, which is the earliest one of the "Dream of Red Mansions" prints.
Under the influence of the woodcut of the painting of the Ahe Yuan at that time, its style was very different from the printmaking of the Hui School in the Ming Dynasty. The frontispiece contains prefaces by Cheng Weiyuan and Gao E. Because Cheng Yiben had made a repair before printing, an introduction was added after the preface.
A and B are preceded by Tuzan, and Tuzan and the preface are engravings, with a total of 24 pages. All of them are half a page of 10 lines, a line of 24 characters, surrounded by two sides, white mouth, single fish tail. The cover is engraved with "New Engraving All Embroidered Like Dream of Red Mansions", signed "Cui Book House".
At the end of the book, there are 24 volumes in the collection of the Extractive Book House.
Cheng Jia and Cheng Yi's "Dream of Red Mansions" has been passed down to this day, which is extremely rare, and Cheng Jia's book is even rarer. They are valuable materials for the study of Dream of the Red Chamber and occupy an important position in the history of classical Chinese literature and ancient printing.

Cheng Yiben is a version of Dream of Red Mansions, a revised version of Cheng Jiaben published the year before. Cheng Yiben is the 57th year of Qianlong (1792), Gao He and Cheng Weiyuan used movable type printing to print 120 times, called "Dream of Red Mansions", the time is about 70 days after Cheng Jiaben was printed, so the name Cheng Yiben.
Cheng Yiben has more than 20,000 words more than Cheng Jiaben. The reason is probably that "because of the eagerness to make it public, it was not as good as the first printing, and there were occasional mistakes".
The layout and illustrations of Cheng Yiben and Cheng Jiaben are exactly the same, but there are more than 20,000 words of difference in text, and there is an additional "introduction" jointly signed by Cheng Weiyuan and Gao E. There are more extant copies of this book than Cheng Jiaben, such as the National Library, China Bookstore, Shandong Library, Hangzhou Library, Shaoxing Library, Shanghai Library and some private collections.

Cheng Yiben is relative to Cheng Jiaben, Cheng Jiaben was published first, and the changes to the original work are smaller than Cheng Yiben.
In the fifty-sixth year of Qianlong [1791], Cheng Weiyuan and Gao He first combined the text of the lipose commentary and the continuation of the forty chapters as one hundred and twenty chapters, taking the title of "Dream of Red Mansions", and later generations were accustomed to call it Cheng Jiaben; >>>More
