The term Gothic was first coined by Raphael, one of the three great masters of the Renaissance, in a letter to Leo X, and was used by Renaissance Italians to disparage medieval art as semi-civilized. Synonymous with barbaric art. Because it was neither created nor developed by the Goths, it is a newer art form of Romanesque art.
It was born in France, so some people call it "French art", but this name is also not accurate, because its influence is far from that, and England, France and Spain have all been influenced by it. So, in order to dispel misunderstandings, the name Gothic has been adopted by the academic community.

The name Gothic is derived from the "Goth" tribe in Germany, who invaded Italy and overthrew the Roman Empire. In the 15th century, there was a widespread idea of the Renaissance and a desire to return to the classical era. The period between the classical era and the Renaissance is known as the Middle Ages.
Because the Italians hated the Goths for destroying their Roman Empire, the Renaissance people always had a negative term for the Middle Ages, which they called "gothic". Meant savage and boorish. Of course, we have to see the two sides of things, the Middle Ages left many valuable cultural heritage and outstanding works of art to the world.
Breakthrough improvements in architectural technology during this period resulted in Gothic cathedrals such as Notre-Pame. Gothic art is not only reflected in architecture, from the 12th century to the early 16th century, carvings, glasswork, ornaments, etc., are labeled Gothic art. Religion played an important role in Gothic art.
Painters and sculptors used religious sensibilities more than realism to express their subjects. In any case, it is clear that the Renaissance people implicitly rejected the word "gothic".

The period between the twelfth and fifteenth centuries of the European Middle Ages was a period of profound economic and social change. In the stable states united under a strong monarchy, craftsmen, merchants, and bankers became a new social caste that began to develop and expand in the expanding and prosperous towns. At the same time, the clergy greatly expanded their sphere of influence.
In terms of art, the distinctive style of this period is the Gothic style. (About Gothic: a:.)
Gothic in the anthropological sense, a people of ancient Europe. They lived in the easternmost part of the Germanic tribes, occupied the lands of the Southern Danube basin and the Black Sea coast, and were divided by the Dnieper into Ostrogothic and Visigothic, two separate tribes. The Visigoths were mobile, conquered Rome, and eventually assimilated into the Roman culture that had been established in Spain, and were conquered by the Moors in the 8th century, blending with the Latin elements of Iberia.
The Ostrogoths crossed the Balkans to Italy, occupied Italy in 493 AD, and were absorbed into the Byzantine Empire in 555 AD. B: The artistic style, which appeared in the late twelfth century, is mainly reflected in architecture and painting, originating in the vicinity of Paris, France.
From the point of view, Gothic art and architecture borrowed from Roman techniques, but placed them in a revolutionary aesthetic view that was completely opposed to that of their predecessors. The Gothic style mainly uses cornice buttresses in architecture, which can greatly reduce the burden on the wall, make it possible to open large stained glass windows on the wall, and at the same time make the whole building have a strong upward character. In this way, from a visual point of view, the buildings – primarily churches – have a soaring façade, while their interiors are strongly elevated by the blurred light from the large stained-glass windows and the higher atrium.
C: Horrible, dark, grotesque, barbaric, just as "Byzantine" means unnecessarily complicated, Gothic becomes an adjective. This dimension also points to the Gothic meaning of Gothic.
Reminiscent of the century popular in England, depicting revenge or monster tales that take place in eerie Gothic castles. Later, there were new expansions, such as the history of Sir Scott, which, according to Americans, extended to Anne Rice's vampire series, and even included Stephen King's horror. )
