The main characters of "Dream of Red Mansions" are Jia Baoyu, Lin Daiyu, Xue Baochai, and Wang Xifeng.

Jia Baoyu is a descendant of the Rongguo Mansion, he is from an extraordinary background, and he is smart and beautiful. He regrets that he was born a man, and he feels that he can only be comfortable with pure and beautiful girls. He abhors and despises men, is close to and respects women.

He wants to live a life of doing what he wants and listening to his nature, that is, fighting grass hairpins, singing quietly, and living freely in the daughter country of Daguanyuan.

Lin Daiyu was born in a declining family. Her father was born in Kejia, and he was an official who patrolled the history of salt. Lin Daiyu has no siblings, and her mother's early death caused her to lose her mother's love since she was a child.

She maintains an innocent nature, loves what she loves, hates what she hates, and does her own thing, rarely caring about the consequences and losses. Due to the death of her parents, she had to live with her grandmother.

Xue Baochai lost his father when he was young, and his brother Xue Pan was a drunken hooligan with no interest. Born in such a family, Xue Baochai has a completely different personality from Lin Daiyu. They are also well-read in poetry and books, and their talents are quick, but Lin Daiyu is dedicated to pursuing a beautiful and rich spiritual life, while Xue Baochai firmly grasps the interests of reality.

The elder brother Jia Yan was named Ning Guogong, and the younger brother Jia Yuan was named Rong Guogong, and the two mansions were connected, so they were called Ning Guofu and Rongguo Mansion.
