First of all, make sure you don't have big games in the C drive, a lot of movies, **, **. This can be found in the explorer (estimate what game there is).

If the virus is also ruled out, then, based on past experience, the displayed capacity may be virtual, that is, it can change at any time, as I have encountered, especially when there are a lot of shortcuts in the start menu.

It doesn't have to be that complicated, right-click on my computer - Properties - System Restore and check it before turning off System Restore on all drives, which I used to do.

The most effective way to clean up the C drive is as follows:

Technical Analysis:

In the NTFS partition of the hard disk, the first active primary partition of the first hard disk, the system that supports NTFS is the C drive by default when installed, and the rest are logical partitions. DOS and Win9X systems do not support NTFS, so NTFS partitions are not counted as drive letters (supported in the NT series), and the first active partition that they can recognize on the first hard disk is identified as C drive.

Therefore, in WinNTX, the partition that is considered to be the C drive is not necessarily the C disk recognized in DOS and Win9X. For those who reinstall the system, do not use the format command before determining whether the C drive is the first active primary partition.
