Abbreviation: On October 11, 1952, the 15th Army of the Volunteer Army fought a counterattack on the 391st Heights northeast of Cheorwon. The 391 Heights are located 10 kilometers northeast of Cheorwon, the mountain is dangerous, and there is a reinforced company of the enemy army stationed there, which is one of the enemy's forward positions of the Volunteer Army"Nails"。
Unplug this"Nails"It was possible not only to improve the defensive positions of the 15th Army of the Volunteers, but also to pose a threat to the enemy. From the forward position of the Volunteer Army to the 391 heights, there is an open field of 3000 meters in between. In order to shorten the impact distance of the troops and make the start of the battle sudden, the 87th Regiment of the 29th Division of the army organized 500 soldiers to hide and lurk in the grass only 60 meters away from the enemy at night, and Qiu Shaoyun was one of the fighters.
At 12 noon on the 12th, four enemy planes suddenly flew in and dropped several incendiary bombs in the lurking area, one of which landed 2 meters away from Qiu Shaoyun. There is a ditch behind Qiu Shaoyun, as long as he takes a few steps back and rolls in the muddy water, the fire on his body can be extinguished. But he knew that this would be discovered by the enemy troops on the top of the hill and expose the target.
In order not to expose the intentions of the troops, but also for the safety of the lives of 500 comrades-in-arms and the victory of the entire battle, he strictly adhered to the latent discipline, did not panic, did not call for help when he was burned by the flames, and firmly lay on the ground, endured severe pain, gritted his teeth, did not say a word, and remained immovable. The fire burned on him for more than 30 minutes, and he died honorably. By 17 p.m., the 3rd Battalion, which had been dormant for 19 hours, suddenly launched an assault on the defenders with artillery support, and after more than 40 minutes of fighting, captured the 391st Heights and completely annihilated the 1st Reinforced Company of the 51st Regiment of the 9th Division of the South Korean Army.
Qiu Shaoyun sacrificed his young life for the final victory of this counterattack in the continuous burning of the fire.
In recognition of Qiu Shaoyun's lofty collectivist spirit and indomitable revolutionary will, a certain committee of the CPC Volunteer Army posthumously recognized him as a member of the CPC, and the leading organ of the Chinese People's Volunteers posthumously awarded him special merit on 6 November 1952 and posthumously on 1 June 1953"First-class hero of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army"Title. In October 1952, Qiu Shaoyun's company received a glorious and arduous task of eliminating enemy forces on the 391 Heights between Pingkang and Jinhua. However, the terrain of the 391 Heights is unique, easy to defend and difficult to attack. There is also an open area more than 3,000 meters wide between the enemy's and our positions, which is the enemy's artillery blockade zone.
Attacking under such long-distance artillery fire will inevitably lead to a large increase in our army and affect the smooth progress of the battle. The higher authorities decided to use covert operations, and the night before the attack was launched, they lurked their troops at the front of the enemy's position and took the enemy by surprise. It is necessary to hide hundreds of people under the noses of the enemy for more than 20 hours without a single exposed target.
Qiu Shaoyun and his comrades-in-arms were undaunted and rushed to fight. Before leaving, Qiu Shaoyun made a steel oath: for the victory of the battle, he was willing to sacrifice everything he had.
In the middle of the night, more than fifty warriors dressed in camouflage thatch laid an ambush in the open field with lightning speed.
In the early morning of the 11th, the enemy's layers of barbed wire and clusters of barbed wire on the 391 Heights did not reveal the hidden secrets of our troops, and the commander of the observation post immediately made a decision and ordered the enemy to be completely annihilated by artillery fire.
At noon the next day, the enemy's incendiary bombs ignited the grass around him, and he only had to roll over to avoid burning. But in order to avoid exposing his target, he strictly adhered to the latent discipline, endured the severe pain of the burning fire, and insisted on staying motionless, like a boulder. Until the heroic sacrifice, the victory of the entire battle was guaranteed.
Dusk is coming, and the time for the sortie has come. The comrades-in-arms were full of hatred, chanting slogans of revenge for their comrades-in-arms, and rushed the canal towards the enemy like a sea of mountains. After only twenty minutes, all the enemies were destroyed, and the banner of victory was fluttering on the 391 heights.
After the battle, the comrades were in Qiu Shaoyun's lurking position and saw the deep pit he had cut out on the ground with his hands ......
On October 12, 1952, Qiu Shaoyun died.
For more than 40 years, Qiu Shaoyun's heroic deeds have inspired generations of people. However, people don't know that such an earth-shattering, ghost-weeping battle hero almost became an unsung hero.
At noon the next day, the enemy fired several incendiary bombs into the lurking area, and the flames burned Qiu Shaoyun's clothes, shoes and socks until they burned all over his body, but he remained motionless until he died.
He was only 26 years old at the time of his death.
