Michael Phelps: Born June 30, 1985 in Baltimore, Maryland, is an American professional swimmer who has won 23 Olympic gold medals, the most in Olympic history.
In 2001, at the age of 16, Phelps broke the world record in the 200m butterfly. During the 2003 World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona, he won six medals.
At Athens 2004, Phelps won six gold medals in the men's 200m and 400m individual medley, 100m and 200m butterfly, 4 200 m freestyle relay and 4 100m medley relay, and two bronze medals in the 200m freestyle and 4 100m freestyle relay.
At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, on August 10, in the men's 400-meter medley, Phelps broke the world record with a time of 4:03.84 and won the first gold medal of the Olympic Games. On August 11, in the men's 4 100m freestyle relay, the first batter of the U.S. team was Phelps in the final, and the U.S. team finally rewrote the world record with a time of 3:12.23. On August 12, in the men's 200m freestyle, Phelps broke the world record with a time of 1:42.96 and won the gold medal.
On August 13, Phelps won the 200m butterfly championship in 1:52.03, winning the fourth gold medal of the Olympic Games and breaking the world record. An hour later, Phelps led the U.S. team to win the gold medal in the men's 4 200m freestyle relay and broke the world record with a time of 6:58.56, marking Phelps' fifth gold medal of the Games. On August 15, in the men's 200-meter medley final, Phelps broke the world record with a time of 1:54.23 and won his sixth gold medal in this Olympic Games.
On August 16, in the men's 100m butterfly, Phelps won the championship in 50.58 seconds. On August 17, in the men's 4 100m medley relay, the United States won the gold medal in 3:29.34 and broke the world record, Phelps won his eighth gold medal of the Games, surpassing Spitz to become the most gold medalists in a single Olympic Games.
On July 27, 2011, Phelps won the 200m butterfly championship at the World Championships in Shanghai.
At London 2012, he won four gold medals. So far, he has won 22 Olympic medals, including 18 golds, making him the most decorated athlete in Olympic history.
On August 4, 2012, Phelps announced his retirement after competing in swimming at the London Olympics. On April 15, 2014, Phelps announced his official comeback.
On August 12, 2016, Beijing time, in the men's 200-meter individual medley final of the Rio Olympic Games, Phelps swam a time of 1:54.66 and won the 22nd gold medal in the Olympic Games. On August 14, in the men's 100-meter medley relay at the Rio Olympics, the United States team led by Phelps won the championship with absolute strength, and Phelps also won his 23rd Olympic gold medal.
