Imprint learning is a learning style in the early postnatal period of an animal, which has a specific sensitive period. The famous Austrian biologist Konrad Lorenz conducted an unusual experiment on grey-legged geese (or ducklings). He hatched the eggs laid by the grey-legged goose in two groups. The first group is hatched by the mother goose, and the first live animals that hatch are the ones they see are their mothers, so they follow wherever the mother goes.

The second group of eggs is placed in an artificial incubator, and the geese are born so that they do not see their mothers, but let them see Lorenz herself first. Imprint learning is evolutionarily significant. Chicks follow the mother bird and can be effectively protected and nurtured by the mother bird. Many mammals establish parent-child bonds through imprint-based learning, so that the mother animal does not misidentify her offspring, which is conducive to the transmission of her own genes and the preservation of the gene pool of the species.
