Yu's teaching style is summed up by students as "motivating", and one example he often uses is his own experience.
In 1978, Yu Minhong returned home to feed pigs and farm after failing the college entrance examination. Due to the weak knowledge base and other reasons, Yu Minhong failed miserably in the first college entrance examination, and only scored 33 points in English; In the second year, I took the test again, and I scored 55 points in English, and I still lost my name. At that time, Yu Minhong did not have great ambitions, as a farmer's child, it was his dream to leave the countryside to live in the city, and the college entrance examination was the only way out of the countryside at that time.
Despite the difficult living conditions, Yu Minhong continued to study under the faint kerosene lamp.
In 1979, the county ran a foreign language cram school, and Yu Minhong squeezed into it, which was his first time learning a foreign language. Living in a large house for 30 people, Yu Minhong feels like he has entered heaven: he can spend the whole day studying, and he can read under the electric light.

Personally, when I started New Oriental, I had a very clear goal, at that time, I came out of Peking University to become a training institution after retiring from my job as a university teacher, and I hoped that I could make a truly meaningful training institution.
