It took us two full days to piece together a rebuttal that made sense of him. He won't let us go until we prove that we not only know what living things are, but also have the perseverance to stand up for the truth.

We brought this new skepticism into all of our classes. This poses a problem for teachers who are not used to skepticism. As our history teacher spoke, someone would clear their throats and say, "Katie Wangpus." ”

If I had to propose a solution to our school crisis, I would bring up Mr. Whiteson. I hadn't made any major scientific discoveries, but my classmates and I got something equally important from Mr. Whiteson, the courage to look someone in the eye and tell him he was wrong.
