Some USB flash drives can be recognized on the computer, but cannot be read or written. When using the built-in formatting tool of Windows, the "file system is raw" is displayed when formatting, and the formatting cannot be completed. USB flash drive repair tools such as mformat and portfree will not help it either.

In the event of this kind of failure, first of all, the faulty device can be identified by the system, which is usually a software failure, and the software failure can usually be repaired by using some tools. Some users sentenced the USB flash drive to death that could be recognized by the system but could not be formatted, which is a pity.

We know that when the partition table of the hard drive is corrupted, the formatting cannot be done either. In this case, you can use the partition tool FDISK that comes with Windows to rebuild the partition table. This idea of solving hard disk failure can also be used on a USB flash drive, but the specific method is slightly different.

Step 1: Insert the USB flash drive into the computer and turn it on. Right-click on the "My Computer" icon and select "Manage", and the "Computer Management" window appears.

Step 2: Click on "Disk Management" under "Storage" on the left side of the window, and the screen will show the information of all storage devices in the current system. Disk 1 (removable) is the USB flash drive to be repaired.

The workaround and detailed operation steps are as follows:

Tool: Windows 7.

1. First of all, connect the memory card to the computer, then click the start button in the bottom left corner, click the "Run" option in the pop-up menu as shown in the image below.

2. Secondly, in the pop-up window, enter "cmd" and click the "OK" button as below screenshot shown.

3. Then, enter the "X: FS:FAT32" command in the pop-up DOS window.

Note that the x in the instruction refers to the disk character inserted into the memory card. After entering the command, press Enter. At this point, you will be prompted if the memory card is connected. After confirming the connection, press enter again and the system will start formatting as shown in the image below.

4. Finally, it will take some time to format the memory card. After the formatting is completed, press the enter key, and then solve the problem that the memory card says that Windows cannot complete the formatting, as shown in the following figure.

Solution 1: Problem 1 of system permissions (the original system is NTFS format).

Right-click on the RAW drive letter, select "Properties", then select "Security", delete the useless user, add your own username, and change the permissions. If there is no security option, you can right-click on the NTFS format disk and display the security option in the properties menu in the folder options (open "My Computer" - select the "Tools" menu - and then select the "Folder" option).

Solution 2: Problem 2 of system permissions (the original system is in NTFS format).

Go to the "Control Panel" and find "Management Tools", open it, turn on the "Local Security Policy", open the "Security Options", find "Network Access: Sharing and Security Mode for Local Accounts" in the right window, and then change "Guest Only" to "Classic", exit back to My Computer, right-click on the disk that has become raw to find the "Security" tab, delete the garbled characters, and then add the user of this computer.

Solution 3: How to modify the drive letter.

Change the drive letter of RAW, if it is C, D, E, F, F is the RAW drive letter, change F to E, and you can restore it.

Solution 4: Make use of EasyRecovery software.

To use EasyRecovery software, click on the second button "Data Recovery" on the left side of the software. Then click on the first "advanced recovery" in the right border, and then you will see that the left side of the software lists all the disks of your computer, select the disk that cannot be used, and then click "next" all the way, the computer will analyze the data existing in your disk, and then find out the files on the hard disk, (even it will find the files that you didn't want to delete before), and so on all found, the left will list the files found by that disk, you choose to back up (generally all by default), Then "next" is there to back up the data to another disk with sufficient capacity that has been prepared before. Finally, format this disk, and the general computer format it as FAT32.

Finally, move the backed up data back to the formatted disk. The software will automatically save a portion of the files in a folder called "lostfile".
