Dai Pingwan, formerly known as Dai Jun, was born in Guihu Xikou, Chao'an County, Guangdong, and has loved reading since childhood. In the autumn of 1922, he was admitted to the Spanish Department of the National Guangdong Higher Normal School (the predecessor of Sun Yat-sen University). In 1924, he joined the Communist Party of China.

After the April 12 Incident in 1927, he moved to Shanghai to engage in literary creation and the left-wing literary and artistic movement. He participated in the preparatory work of the "Left Alliance" and was an important contributor to the "Pioneer", the organ of the "Left Alliance". In Shanghai, he published the monthly magazine "Sun" together with Jiang Guangci, Qian Xingcun, Du Guozhen, Hong Lingfei, etc., and founded the monthly magazine "We".

After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, he stayed in Shanghai to work on the "New China Literature and Art Series" and "Literature and Art News", and was also in charge of the local news edition of the "Daily Translation Daily" to support progressive literary and artistic publications.

From 1930 to 1934, Dai Pingwan once asked him to go to the Northeast as the secretary of the first comrade, and served as the Propaganda Minister of the Harbin Underground Federation of Trade Unions (Manchuria Provincial Party Committee), and Luo Dengxian, Secretary of the Manchuria Provincial Party Committee at that time, Zhao Yiman, Minister of Women Workers of the Manchuria Provincial Party Committee, and other comrades jointly led the labor movement and anti-Japanese strikes in the Northeast region, and jointly founded the Northeast Anti-Japanese Allied Army, which was one of the earliest founders of the Northeast Anti-Japanese Allied Army. In 1935, Dai Pingwan returned to Shanghai to serve as secretary of the Chinese Left-wing Writers' Union. In the winter of 1940, Dai Pingwan was sent by the party to the base area in northern Jiangsu, engaged in journalism and education, and served as a professor in the Department of Literature at the East China Branch of the Lu Xun Academy of Arts.

In 1941, Yuye Dai Pingwan was appointed as the head of the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee of the Central Soviet District and the president and director of the Party School of the Central Soviet District, and was also responsible for the editor-in-chief of the Anti-Japanese War Newspaper. Dai Pingwan was quite famous during his lifetime, he was talented and old-fashioned. He has written short stories such as "The Way Out", "City Night", "Lu Ah Liu", "Bitter Vegetables", etc., as well as novellas "The Eve" and "Liqing".
