Why do morning glories always spin right up?

Morning glory, also known as trumpet flower, is a plant that everyone is familiar with. It has a long, thin stem that appears very thin and has to be wound around other objects in order to grow upwards. If you look closely at the thin stems that wrap around the bamboo poles, you will find an interesting phenomenon, which is that morning glories climb upwards in a clockwise direction (right-handed), while hops, another winding plant, do the opposite, which grows upwards in a counterclockwise direction (left-handed).

Why is that? This seemingly simple question is difficult.

Although there is no definitive answer yet, there are already scientists who have hypothesized about this phenomenon. Scientists speculate that the ancestors of our earth's entwined plants, one in the northern hemisphere and the other in the southern hemisphere, followed the rising sun in the east and setting in order to get more sunlight, and over time, two opposite rotations were formed. If this statement is correct, some winding plants that originate near the equator cannot have a fixed winding direction.

Later, scientists did discover a neutral plant that can rotate left and right, and its origin is in the equatorial region of Argentina.

100,000 Whys Sixth Edition – Plants also intrigued me. The book tells many interesting stories about plants, such as the banyan tree grows into a forest alone, the seeds of thousand-year-old lotus can germinate, and some plants love meat. There are many things I didn't know before, such as the fact that sunflowers have thousands of flowers and some plants can grow in the air ......It's so colorful.

I learned from the book that without plants, there would be a severe lack of oxygen on the earth, and humans would feel suffocated and would not be able to survive. Therefore, the protection of plants is an indispensable action for us human beings.

I learned a lot from the book. Before, I didn't know much about plants, but after reading this book, I know a lot about plants, and I have a deeper awareness of plant protection.

I was also fascinated by the many novel stories in the book, such as the aforementioned sunflowers with thousands of flowers, which I had never heard of before, and the strange things that plants can grow in the air.

The more I looked at the back, the more curious I became, the interesting knowledge that ancient lotus seeds do not rot for thousands of years, and a banyan tree can become a forest, made me always stay on one page.

100,000 Whys is a set of popular science books, so I have mastered a lot of scientific knowledge in the book, and I have gained a lot.

100,000 Whys 6th Edition – Plants has taught me a lot about plants, and since then, I have become more interested in plants, and I will continue to read them many times to gain more knowledge from the book.

1. Why does it rain?

This is because the water of rivers, oceans, and lakes turns into water vapor when exposed to sunlight. Water vapor rises into the air because the sky is cold, and when water vapor encounters cold air, it becomes small water droplets, Xiaoice crystals and finally clouds. >>>More
