Container handling methods mainly include the following five systems:

1.Trailer chassis system

The export container is parked on the yard by the container tractor carrying the container from the port area, and then the container tractor tows the chassis carrying the container from the yard to the front of the wharf when loading, and the container is hoisted onto the ship by the shore container loading and unloading bridge.

2.Straddle carrier system.

The front of the wharf adopts the shore container loading and unloading bridge to undertake the loading and unloading of ships, and the straddle carrier undertakes the horizontal transportation between the front of the wharf and the yard, as well as the stacking of the yard and the loading and unloading of vehicles entering and leaving the site. That is, the "ship-to-site" operation is to unload the container from the ship to the front of the terminal by the loading and unloading bridge, and then the container is transported to the designated container position in the terminal yard by the straddle carrier; "Field-to-site", "field-to-container trailer", "field-to-freight station" and other operations are undertaken by straddle carriers.

3.Rubber tyred gantry crane system.

The wharf front of the tyred gantry crane system adopts the shore container loading and unloading bridge to undertake the loading and unloading of the ship, and the rubber-tyred gantry crane undertakes the loading and unloading and stacking operations of the wharf yard, and the horizontal transportation from the wharf front to the yard and the container section in the yard is completed by container trucks. Rubber-tyred gantry cranes can generally span 6 rows and 1 row of truck lanes, with a stacking height of 3 to 5 layers of containers. The rubber-tyred gantry crane is equipped with a steering device and can be moved from one container area to another.

The rubber-tyred gantry crane system is suitable for terminals with small land area. Most of China's container terminals use this process system.

4.Rail-mounted gantry crane system.

Compared with the rubber tyred gantry crane system, the yard machinery has a larger span and a stronger stacking capacity. The rail-mounted gantry crane can stack 4 5 layers of containers, and can span 14 or even more columns. The rail-mounted gantry crane system is suitable for land and water intermodal terminals with limited site area and large container throughput.

5.Straddle Carrier Gantry Crane Mixing System.

From the point of view of economy and loading and unloading performance, the first four process system schemes have their own advantages and disadvantages, and some ports in the world have adopted the mixed system of the above-mentioned process scheme, and the straddle carrier a gantry crane hybrid system, its main characteristics are: the loading and unloading of the ship side is undertaken by the shore container loading and unloading bridge; The horizontal transportation, stacking and delivery loading of imported containers are completed by straddle carriers; The horizontal transportation between the freight yard of the export container and the front of the terminal is completed by the container semi-trailer, and the loading and unloading and stacking of the freight yard are completed by the rail-mounted gantry crane. Because the hybrid system can give full play to the characteristics of various machinery, make full use of the strengths and avoid the weaknesses, and tend to be more reasonable and perfect, many terminals in the world have adopted this scheme.

The loading and unloading of containers in the port is divided into two ways: hoisting and ro-ro according to the loading and unloading process. Or the container is directly stacked in the ship's hold, and after the leather rubber ship arrives at the port, the forklift and the towing dry train are used to drive into the ship's hold, and the container is placed on the trailer with a forklift, and the tractor is towed to the terminal yard, or the container is loaded and unloaded only by the forklift through the springboard.
