Sticking strong, high-quality watercolor paper with glue or rye paste to the plywood becomes an easy-to-use substrate. The paper must be well moistened beforehand.

2. Cardboard. Cardboard for oil painting is preferably made of *** rags, well flattened and glued. Cardboard made of wood and rice stalks is of poor quality. As in the case of wooden boards, cardboard must be glued and oiled on both sides and laid flat indoors to dry.

To use a thick gel solution, there is now a latex called polyvinyl acetate solution on the market that is a very suitable choice. Thick cardboard is an excellent material and is not susceptible to insect damage; But it also has disadvantages, large sheets of thick cardboard are easy to deform. The cardboard specially used by the painter in the store has a surface similar to that of oil canvas, but it should be noted that the oil painting bought back by the store should be processed before use, and my general practice is to scrape 2 layers of oil painting base or latex directly with a spatula on the oil painting board bought back from the store, otherwise it will absorb oil and make a mess.

Since the color of the cardboard is almost never lightfast, it is better to paint the cardboard with an oil base and then brush it with the desired color. A single layer of glue does not prevent the influence of the base color on the color of the painting. Cardboard may contain sulfuric acid.

Rubbing oil on cardboard as a release agent is completely undesirable; Instead, as in the case of wooden panels, a reliable oil painting base should be painted. Drawings made on cardboard that had only been glued often turned very dark. Oiling a base on cardboard is as useless as it is on wood.

Just brush a layer of white latex (the thickness is your own master, the effect will be different), as long as there is no oil leakage, I usually practice painting like this, and the effect is very good. But this kind of painting is not conducive to preservation, and it is not convenient for exhibition, you can try to paint on a wooden board, and also brush it with glue, it will feel good and easy to preserve.
