Which publisher produced the best version of Dream of the Red Chamber ?

Dream of Red Mansions is generally said to have two major version systems, one is the lipid batch system and the other is the Cheng engraving system. The so-called fat criticism refers to the book with the author's relatives and friends (at least including Tera Wat Suo) on the **. The title of this kind of book is usually "Fat Yan Zhai Re-evaluation of the Stone Record", these books are eighty copies of the author's original work, and they were circulated in the form of manuscripts at the beginning.

The lipid batch was found in the twenties of the last century, and more than ten kinds were found in succession in the past few decades, and the most important books are "Jiaxu Ben", (see Shuying) "Ji Mao Ben", "Gengchen Ben", "Dream Manuscript Ben", "Wangfu Ben", "Qi Preface Ben", "Jiachen Ben", "Liezang Ben" and so on. Because "Yan Yan and Xueqin were contemporary, witnessed all kinds of accidents, and did not follow the assumptions of criticism" (Liu Quanfuba, the collector of the early "Jiazhu Ben"), it has extremely important research value. Cheng engraved book refers to the book that Cheng Weiyuan, a bookseller in Suzhou, asked someone to make up and sort out 120 times, and printed it with movable type in the name of Cui Shuwu in the 56th year of Qianlong (1791), with the title of "New Engraving All Embroidered Like a Dream of Red Mansions".

The first 80 chapters of the book are very close to the lipobatch system. More than two months later, in the early spring of Qianlong's 57th year, Cheng Weiyuan collected all kinds of books, revised them, and typeset them again for publication. People call the former one Cheng Jiaben, and the latter one Cheng Yiben.

Once this book came out, because it had the appearance of a complete book, it became popular all over the world, and most of the later editions were engraved with Cheng Yiben as the source, almost submerging other books. In fact, it was not Cheng Weiyuan's family who wrote eighty times, but the main thing that remained after the elimination and screening was Cheng carving. The person invited by Cheng Weiyuan to make up the cover is Gao E, and it is difficult to determine how many parts of Gao E's supplement there are.

As a reading appreciation, Cheng Keben is a good book; As a study, it is not possible to circumvent the lipo batch under any circumstances. Of course, no matter which angle it is, Cheng Keben should also be paid attention to by researchers.
