The Commonwealth of Nations is an international organization composed of 52 independent sovereign states (including dependent territories), most of which are former British colonies or protectorates.
The head of the Commonwealth is Queen Elizabeth II, who is also the head of state of 16 Commonwealth kingdoms, including the United Kingdom (only in name, but has no real power, and the British monarch has no right to interfere in the internal affairs of the member states), and these 16 countries constitute a modern version of the confederation.
