Name of Award: International Mathematical Olympiad.
Other names: International Mathematics Olympiad
Organizers: Hosted by participating countries on a rotational basis.
Introduction: The International Mathematical Olympiad is an international mathematics competition for middle school students, which has a great influence in the world. The purpose of the International Olympiad is:
Discover and encourage young people with mathematical talents in the world, create conditions for science education exchanges in various countries, and enhance friendly relations between teachers and students in various countries. The competition was launched in 1959 by Eastern European countries and funded by UNESCO. The first edition of the competition was hosted by Romania and held in Bucharest from 22 to 30 July 1959, with the participation of seven countries: Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland, Romania and the Soviet Union.
Since then, the International Mathematical Olympiad has been held every year in July (only once in 1980), and the participating countries have gradually expanded from Eastern Europe to Western Europe, Asia, the Americas, and finally to the whole world since 1967. At present, there are more than 80 teams participating in this competition. The United States participated in the competition in 1974 and China in 1985.
After more than 40 years of development, the operation of the International Mathematical Olympiad has been gradually institutionalized and standardized, and there is a set of conventions and routines, which have been followed by successive hosts.
The International Mathematical Olympiad is hosted by the participating countries on a rotational basis, and the funds are provided by the host country, but the travel expenses are borne by the participating countries. Contestants must be middle school students under the age of 20, and each team has 6 students, and 2 mathematicians are the team leaders. The test questions are provided by each participating country, and then selected by the host country and submitted to the main test committee for voting, resulting in 6 test questions.
The host country does not provide test questions. After the test questions are determined, they will be written in English, French, German, Russian and other working languages, and the team leader will translate them into their own language. The main test committee is composed of team leaders from each country and the chairperson designated by the host country.
This chair is usually the country's authority on mathematics. There are 7 responsibilities of the main examination committee: 1) select test questions; 2) Determine the scoring criteria; 3) Accurately express the test questions in the working language, and translate and approve the test questions into the languages of each participating country; 4) During the competition, determine how students will ask questions about the test questions in writing; 5) Resolve the differences between individual team leaders and coordinators on scoring; 6) Determine the number of medals and the score line.

Olympiad mathematics is interesting mathematics, mathematics with greater difficulty, mathematics with good methods to solve, and mathematics for competition selection.
Olympiad mathematics has a certain effect on the mental exercise of teenagers, and can exercise thinking and logic through Olympiad mathematics, which does not only play a role in mathematics for students, but is usually more esoteric than ordinary mathematics.
There are some basic contents of some branches of mathematics that we do not talk about in our usual mathematics classes and do not have time to talk about, such as graph theory, combinatorics, number theory, etc., as well as very important mathematical ideas, such as construction ideas, special ideas, naturalization ideas, and so on.
Dabbling in this kind of knowledge is conducive to cultivating students' interest in mathematics, expanding their thinking, and enhancing the organization of thinking, which is a supplement and expansion of classroom teaching.
Olympiad questions are generally more difficult. Since it is for the competition, of course, there should be difficulty, they are the deepening and improvement of the content of the ordinary classroom, different test questions have a variety of different perspectives, and need to have a more in-depth analysis to answer, this kind of test questions can test students' mastery of basic knowledge.
Extended Materials. 1. Olympiad mathematics was once called "fun mathematics" in China
Because many of the Olympiad problems, especially in the primary school Olympiad, are very interesting and game-like. This kind of Olympiad math problem is deceptively simple and can be understood by almost everyone; The title is vivid and interesting, but very confusing. Hope!

Analysis: "Mathematics Olympiad" is the abbreviation of the Mathematical Olympiad. In 1934 and 1935, the former Soviet Union began to hold secondary school mathematics competitions in Leningrad and Moscow, which were named the Mathematical Olympiad, and in 1959 the first International Mathematical Olympiad was held in Bucharest.
As an international competition, the International Mathematical Olympiad is proposed by international mathematics education experts, and the scope of questions exceeds the compulsory education level of all countries, and the difficulty is much more than that of university entrance exams. Experts believe that only 5 percent of children with abnormal intelligence are suitable for learning Olympiad mathematics at a late time, and even fewer can pass all the way to the top of the International Mathematical Olympiad.
In recent years, various extracurricular mathematics improvement classes and training classes in China have been named "Olympiad", which has gradually deviated from the track of the selection of Olympiad players and highlighted the characteristics of popularization. Although many well-known mathematicians and mathematics educators have issued a call to guard against the deviation of "Olympiad Mathematics", the delicate relationship between "Olympiad Mathematics" results and middle school promotion makes it difficult to stop the expansion trend of "Olympiad Mathematics". All kinds of cup competitions sponsored by schools and groups are highly targeted extracurricular mathematics training, all of which are dressed in the coat of "Olympiad", and it has become synonymous with "Olympiad" by detaching from textbooks and emphasizing skills.
