The purpose of this paper is to investigate the role of the gate position in the performance of displacement ventilation systems using a confirmed computational fluid dynamics simulation. Results are reported based on thermal comfort and indoor air quality. The study focused on a typical Hong Kong office under local upwelling and boundary conditions.
It is found that the presence of large heat sources such as from windows can cause lateral movement of airflow, disrupting the convection on which displacement ventilation systems depend. Doors can create this condition when changing the thermal boundary conditions of the interior space when they are opened. Designers should be made aware of this possibility and make appropriate design decisions for the fact that accommodated.

Displacement Ventilation (DV) systems have been proposed in recent years as an option to conventional hybrid Ventilation (DV). The expanding demand for better air quality fuels the need for improved ventilation systems. Improved indoor air quality for the DV system at the outlet was provided by several researchers.
