When changing the active voice to the passive voice, first change the object of the active structure into the subject of the passive structure (if it is a pronoun, the accusative must become the subject), then change the verb of the active structure from the active voice to the passive voice, and finally add the preposition by after the passive voice of the verb, and then put the subject in the active structure after by to become the object of by (if it is a pronoun, the nominative case must become the accusative).

Most active sentences with transitive verbs in English can be converted into passive sentences, and the specific transformations are as follows:

When an active sentence with a direct object becomes a passive sentence, the object becomes the subject, the verb changes from an active structure to a passive structure, the subject becomes a phrase caused by a preposition, and the phrase caused by by by can sometimes be omitted, such as:

Active sentence: people play football all over the world

Passive sentence: football is played all over the world

Clause. 2. Active sentences with double objects.

When an active sentence with a direct object and an indirect object becomes a passive sentence, only one of the objects becomes the subject, such as:

Active sentence: My friend lent me those books

Passive sentence: Those books were lent (to) me by my friend

When an active sentence with two direct objects becomes a passive sentence, usually only the object that represents the person is changed to the subject, and the object that represents the thing is generally unchanged, such as:

Active sentence: they asked him some questions

Passive sentence: he was asked some questions (by them).

The subject complement can be a noun (phrase), an adjective (a phrase), and an unqualified verb (phrase), in which the infinitive must have to.

Active sentence: the farmer made the horses work the whole day

Passive sentence: the horses were made to work the whole day
