The Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) is Nigeria's leading body responsible for the development and enforcement of quality standards for imported goods and domestically manufactured products. In order to ensure that the regulated products comply with the technical standards of the country or other international standards that have been approved for implementation, and to protect Nigerian consumers from unsafe products or products that do not meet the standards, the Nigerian National Bureau of Standards has decided to implement the mandatory pre-shipment conformity assessment procedure (hereinafter referred to as SONCAP) for regulated products exported to the country.

At present, SONCAP certification mainly involves 2 steps: SONCAP=PC+COC

1. Exporter or manufacturer apply for PC certificate; PC is an abbreviation for Product Certificate.

2. The exporter applies for COC certificate; COC is an abbreviation for Certificate of Conformity.

The SONCAP certificate is a statutory requirement for the regulated products to go through the customs clearance procedures at the Nigerian Customs, and the lack of the SONCAP certificate will cause the customs clearance of the regulated products to be delayed or denied access to the Nigerian domestic market. In particular, SONCAP applies to regulated products, and other import formalities imposed by Nigeria** remain in effect.

The Nigeria SONCAP application process is as follows:

1. Apply for the product registration certificate PC (product certificate) first
