Yangling District belongs to Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province.

Yangling District is nominally under the jurisdiction of Xianyang City, but its formal administrative jurisdiction is exercised by the Yangling Demonstration Zone Management Committee. Yangling District is named after the Tailing Tomb of Emperor Wen of Sui Emperor Yang Jian in its jurisdiction.

Yangling District is located in the Weihe River graben at the southern end of the Ordos platform, which belongs to the Cenozoic fault subsidence zone of the Weihe Valley. The larger fault structures in the territory mainly include the tensile faults of the Baoji and Xianyang faults (trending nearly east-west and trending south-west). Yangling was named after the Tailing Tomb, the mausoleum of Emperor Wen of Sui Emperor Yang Jian. Yangling has a long history, and was the hometown of the Tai tribe from the 21st to the 16th century BC. It is recorded in the "Historical Records of the Zhou".

More than 4,000 years ago, Hou Ji, the earliest agricultural official in Chinese history, taught the people to harvest crops and arboriculture grains, and Yangling became one of the birthplaces of Chinese agriculture.
