The 2004 European Football Championship in Portugal featured 16 teams in the final week. With the exception of host country Portugal, the other 15 teams competed for a place in the final week through qualifying. It was the first time that the Grape Tooth had hosted the European Championships.
The final was held in Lisbon and was a "remake" of the opening match between the host country Portugal and Greece, which had a very strong performance.
2. Greece, which has never qualified for the final stage of an international competition, magically became the champion with the winning goal scored by Charlie Steias in the 57th minute after receiving a corner kick. Hosts Portugal became the first team in European Championship history to reach the final and lose in the final.

Euro 2004 was held in Portugal and the final was held in Lisbon. This is the first time Portugal has hosted the European Championship. The tournament took place from 12 June to 4 July 2004 and was won by the Greek team in the final, beating Portugal in the final.
Greece had missed the European Championship finals for five consecutive years, and were in Group A with Portugal, Spain and Russia, and almost no one saw the prospect of Greece qualifying before the game. Unexpectedly, the first round was a surprise defeat to the host Portugal, the second round forced a draw with the powerful Spain, although the last round lost to the Russian team that lost the chance to qualify, but still squeezed out the Spanish team with the advantage of more goals to qualify for the second place in the group, in the 1 4 and semi-finals, relying on tenacious defense to eliminate the French team and the Czech Republic team 1:0 respectively, and finally met Portugal again in the final.
On 4 July 2004, Greece miraculously won the tournament with a 1-0 win over hosts Portugal at the Stadium of Light in Lisbon, making them the blackest horses in the history of the tournament. In the 57th minute, striker Charlie Steias scored the only goal. Rehhagel's side won all three of their knockout stage games 1-0, becoming the first team to keep a clean sheet in the knockout stages of a major tournament.
The most important thing for Portugal is to solve the problem of air defense, if it can effectively curb the German high-altitude bombing, then the control of the ball characteristic of Latin football, the passing of the ball at will can make the Germanic chariot suffer, but never ignore the tenacity of the Germans. Personally, I am bullish on Portugal. >>>More
