Zhao Lihong, a native of Chongming County, Shanghai, was born in 1951 in downtown Shanghai.

In 1987, he was hired as a professional writer of the Shanghai Writers Association.
He is currently a member of the National Committee of the Chinese Writers Association, vice chairman of the Shanghai Writers Association, a visiting professor of East China Normal University, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and a director of the China Overseas Friendship Association.
