How to change an active sentence from an active sentence to a passive sentence in English:
1. Find the object of the sentence (it must be after the predicate verb) and mention it at the beginning of the sentence.
2. Use the passive voice structure be+vt past participle to form sentences.
3. Bring out the prepositional phrase composed of the subject of the original sentence by or without it.
For example: he finished his homework yesterday
Change to passive sentence: his homework was finished (by him) yesterday
workers build buildings everyday.
Change to passive sentence: buildings are built by workers everyday
-
Let's start with an example:
I broke the glass.
Passive sentence: The glass was broken by me.
In general, changing the original sentence to a passive sentence is to swap the subject of the original sentence with the bearer of the action, and when the sentence structure is converted, "be" is generally added to form a passive sentence.
-
Step 1: Find the object and turn it into a passive subject;
Step 2: The variable predicate should be consistent with the tense adopted by the predicate verb of the active voice;
Step 3: Change the subject of the active voice into the object of the preposition by. The rest of the ingredients are copied.
-
The so-called change to passive voice means that the original object component of the sentence is proposed as the subject, and then the original predicate verb is changed to the passive form, that is, the corresponding be verb is added before the original verb, and then the verb is changed to the past participle form.
For example: active voice: we (main) plant (predicate) many trees (object) along the road
Passive voice: many trees (subject, object in the original sentence) are planted(predicate, be + past participle) along the road (by us (main in the original sentence, sometimes can be omitted)).
Generally, the subject in the original sentence can be omitted when the active change is passive, that is, the originator of the action.
-
The first step is to find the object in the original sentence and say that it is used as the subject in the passive voice (the original object is a personal pronoun, and the nominative case should be used for the subject).
The second step is to find out the predicate verb and turn it into a past participle of the be + verb, and be changes with the subject's person, number, and tense.
The third step is to change the subject in the original sentence to the structure of by+ original subject (the original subject is a personal pronoun and needs to be changed to an accusative).
The fourth step is to leave the rest of the sentence directly.
Example sentence: we plant many trees every year
Passive: Many trees are planted by us every year
-
Find the subject first, then the predicate verb or the verb, then the object, and then the object in advance.
-
To change the passive voice of the original sentence, we must first determine the object in the sentence, turn the object into the subject, and follow the passive voice formula: be + past participle, and keep the tense of the original sentence. For example:
they told me that there would be a new film on in the cinema.
i was told that there would be a new film on in the cinema.

were not spoken by people in france.
kind of shoes was sold by them in this shop last week.
story was written by gina last night.
uniform must be worn (by us) on weekdays.
bike can’t be repaired by them in that shop.
baby should be taken good care of by you.
The above sentences are all simple sentences that can be clearly seen by the subject-verb-object. When the active voice is transformed into the passive voice, the original object is generally replaced with the past participle + object of the subject + be + predicate (the subject of the original active voice).
For example, in Example 3, gina is the subject, wrote is the predicate, and story is the object. When it becomes passive, story is the subject, and the predicate is inconvenient but becomes passive
The past participle of be+write written, gina becomes an object.
The sender of the action of writing a story is gina, and the story is the bearer of the action, it is written. So, the predicate verb is in the passive form when the story is the subject, and the predicate verb is in the active form when gina is the subject.
