Among them, the closest to maturity is the T34 heavy tank. In December 1948, the U.S. Army and Chrysler signed a contract for the development of the T43 heavy tank. In June 1951, the company completed the trial production of the first prototype and began various tests at the Aberdeen Proving Ground.

In 1953, it was officially finalized as the M103 heavy tank. In 1956, it was officially included in the US military equipment sequence and began to equip US troops in West Germany. In use, the M103 tank was found to have many problems and was considered "unsuitable for use on the front line".

As a result, as many as 150 technical modifications were carried out on the produced M103 tank.

The end user of the M103 heavy tank was the U.S. Marine Corps, which was used until it was retired from active service in 1973.

The M103 heavy tank has a fleet of 220 units and has not participated in real combat.
