Berkeley ** College was founded by Lawrence Burke, and was originally known as Schlinger ** Building, named after Berke's teacher, Joseph Schlinger. Initially, it was created to highlight the merits of Schlinger's harmony and compositional system. In 1954, after the school's curriculum was expanded, Burke changed the school's name to Berkeley ** after his son, Lee Burke.
In 1973, the school was renamed Berkeley** College after it officially received its educational license. Lee Burke himself never formally studied business and real estate law, but his daughter, Lucy Burke, was a graduate of the college.
At the time of Berkeley's establishment, almost all of Berkeley's schools focused on classics. Berkeley's original mission was to educate jazz, rock and roll and other modern music that could not be learned at other schools.
The admission requirement for Berkeley College is that the applicant has studied an instrument for at least two years or has a lot of acting practice. Students can be offered a secondary school graduation as well as a preparatory course, SAT test, or ACT test. The TOEFL test is not required for foreign students, but basic English communication skills are required.
From 2007 students also have to play live [2]. This is a change from the college's open-door policy for many years. Berkeley** College's enrollment rate is currently 34%.
In 2003, it also set up an online class.
