Engine oil is not only responsible for lubrication, it also has the functions of cooling, cleaning, vibration damping, sealing, etc. At present, the oil grades on the market are intricate, often so that car owners do not know how to choose, in fact, there are only two main indicators of engine oil, figure out the specific meaning, on the line.

Viscosity indicator. According to the SAE method, there are 6 types of oil for winter, 5 types of oil for summer, and 16 kinds of general oil for winter and summer.

Winter oil grades: OW, 5W, 10W, 15W, 20W, 25W. The symbol W represents winter, the smaller the number before W, the smaller its low temperature viscosity, the better the low temperature fluidity, and the lower the applicable minimum temperature.

Summer oil grade, 60. The higher the number, the greater its viscosity and the higher the applicable maximum temperature.

Quality indicators. According to the API quality classification, engine oil is divided into gasoline engine oil series (i.e., S series) and diesel engine oil system (i.e., C series), and the oil products of each series are arranged in alphabetical order (A, B, C, D, E, F), and are divided into several grades, and the lower the letter ranking, the higher the grade.

Selection method. The marking on the outer packaging of engine oil currently sold on the market consists of two parts: SAE viscosity classification level and API quality classification level. It usually starts with SAE and is followed by a viscosity code; The engine oil label classified by API quality generally omits the API and directly marks the quality grade code.

For example, the designation SAE10WSD indicates a winter gasoline engine oil with a viscosity classification of SAE10W and a quality level of API SD; The designation SAE30SD indicates the viscosity classification SAE30, and the quality grade is APE SD for summer gasoline engine oil; The label is SAE10W 30SD (or SAE10W 30SD), which indicates that the viscosity classification is to meet both SAE10W and SAE30 winter and summer general purpose gasoline engine oil, and its quality grade is API SD grade.

When choosing a motor oil, fans can combine the local maximum and minimum temperatures and refer to the car's "User Manual". If you choose an oil that is too viscous, it will increase the resistance to movement and consume engine power; If you choose an oil with too little viscosity, the lubrication quality cannot be guaranteed, and it will aggravate the wear of the engine. For engines that have been seriously worn and the gaps between the fittings are large, a higher viscosity oil can be used to strengthen the sealing performance of the fittings.

Use lubricating oil with high viscosity, such as 15W W W-50, etc., in summer; In winter, use a lubricating oil with a lower viscosity, such as 5W W-30 or 10W W-40.
