The Nalengrad Gorge on the Tibetan Plateau is still quite unknown to many people, but it is famous in the world of adventure. It is almost on a par with the "Death Valley" of the former Soviet Union, the "Death Valley" of the United States, and the "Death Hole" of the Indonesian island of Java. Locals say there is a man-eating monster in the canyon, citing the presence of daring or lost herders into the valley, but most of them are gone.

After heavy rains, it is not uncommon to see large numbers of wild animals in the valley dumping their bodies in the wilderness, and the corpses are accompanied by scorched earth. All kinds of strange phenomena have made the Nalengrad Gorge seem mysterious and abnormal, so that for many years it has become a "death zone" that people dare not set foot in. According to herders outside the gorge, gunshots from hunters calling for help and desperate and miserable cries of gold diggers have been heard inside the canyon.

So even though there were many animals and abundant pastures, people stayed away from this place and renamed Nalengrad (Sun Valley) "Devil's Valley".

In the early 80s, the Xinjiang Geological Bureau sent scientific expeditions to conduct an investigation and found that there are several reasons why people and animals often die inexplicably: the main reason is that it is a lightning strike area, with a large area of strong magnetic basalt, and many iron ore veins and quartz bodies. Because the moist air is blocked by the main vein of the Kunlun Mountains and the Qimantag Mountains, it collects in the valley and forms thunderstorm clouds, coupled with the action of the underground magnetic field, often produces the phenomenon of "thunderstorms".

And the clouds can gather at any time, and they can cause thunderbolts at any time. Especially for people and tall animals, once they enter this canyon, the big animals can only risk surviving, and people will inevitably be killed. In addition, there is permafrost beneath the surface here, and in the summer, the surface layer melts, and the grass is covered, and the bubbling meltwater will hollow out the ground or form a quagmire, and you will sink deeper and deeper if you accidentally step on it.

This is an absolute no-man's land, and once people interfere with bears, wolves and other animals, it is easy to be attacked by wild animals and it is difficult to escape. This would explain why people enter the valley of the Nalengrad River and either disappear without a trace, or their clothes are broken, their bodies are charred, and their bones are piled up.

The Nalengrad Gorge, because of the Qimantag Mountains on the opposite side of Gasi Lake, which blocks the dry and hot air of the Qaidam Basin in summer, and the Kunlun Mountains on the opposite side of the river valley, the two mountains are sandwiched, and the water vapor from the Indian Ocean passes through it from the east, with sufficient rainfall and a humid climate.

Located in the Kunlun Mountains of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the Nalengrad Gorge is a narrow and deep valley with steep walls formed by the uplift of neotectonic movements and the incision of flowing water glaciers. According to the cross-sectional shape of the canyon, it can be divided into various types, such as ridge valley, V-shaped valley, and "first-line sky".
