Zhang Ji is a Wuwei Zuli person. In 191 A.D. (the second year of Chuping), Zhang Ji was ordered by Dong Zhuo's son-in-law Niu Fu to lead tens of thousands of soldiers with Li Dao and Guo Yan to fight with Zhu Jun, and after defeating Zhu Jun, he went to Chenliu, Yingchuan and other places to plunder, and the place where the army passed was captured and killed.
In April 192 A.D. (the third year of Chuping), Dong Zhuo was conspired by Wang Yun and Lu Bu to be killed, and then Niu Fu also died in the turmoil, Zhang Ji and Li Dao and others planned to disband the troops and fled to their hometowns, but they were afraid that they would still not be pardoned, Jia Xu, a Wuwei person, said to Li Dao: "I heard that the people of Chang'an said that they want to punish all the people of Liangzhou, if you abandon the army and go alone, then a small pavilion chief can catch you." It is better to lead the army westward, attack Chang'an, and avenge Dong Gong.
If the matter is successful, you can serve the country and the world; If it doesn't work, it's never too late to go. Li Dao and others adopted Jia Xu's suggestion and said everywhere: "The imperial court will not pardon us, we should fight to the death."
If you conquer Chang'an, you will win the world; If they can't be attacked, they will rob Sanfu's women's property and return to their hometown, and they can still save their lives. His subordinates responded, so they formed an alliance with Guo Yan, Zhang Ji and others, led thousands of troops, day and night, and attacked Chang'an. On the first day of June, Chang'an fell.
On the second day of the same month, Emperor Xian granted amnesty to the world, appointed Li Dao as General Yangwu, Guo Yan as General Yanglie, and Zhang Ji, Fan Chou and others as Zhonglang Generals. In 195 A.D. (the second year of Xingping), in June, Li Dao's general Yang Feng and the military officer Song Guo wanted to murder Li Dao, but the matter was revealed, Yang Feng led his troops to defect, and Li Dao's power weakened slightly. Soon, Zhang Ji came from Shaanxi County to persuade peace, and wanted to temporarily place Emperor Xian in Hongnong, and Emperor Xian also sent envoys to persuade him, Li Dao and Guo Yan were ready to negotiate peace, and wanted to exchange their sons as hostages, but Li Ji's wife loved her son Li Shi very much and was unwilling to exchange, so it was not negotiated.
Later, Li Dao agreed to exchange their daughters as hostages, and the two sides reconciled. In July of the same year, Emperor Xian went out of Chang'an and returned to the east, and at night in Baling, the attendants and guards were hungry, and Zhang Ji gave food and drink according to the size of each person's official position. Li Dao led his troops out of Tunchiyang, and Zhang Ji, Guo Yan, and Yang Ding, Yang Feng, and Dong Cheng, the former subordinates of Dong Zhuo, all returned east with the Son of Heaven.
Dedicated the emperor to worship Zhang Ji as a hussar general, like the three dukes, he opened the palace and summoned Peng's subordinates; Guo Yan was the general of the chariot cavalry, Yang Ding was the general of the post, and Yang Feng was the general of Xingyi, all of whom were named liehous. Dong Cheng was also the general of Anji, and Guo Yan and others escorted the emperor together. There were many disputes between the generals along the way.
In October of the same year, Li Dao and Guo Yan regretted letting the emperor return to the east, so they united and led the army to pursue. And Zhang Ji was at odds with Yang Feng, Dong Cheng and others, and soon after he united with Li and Guo to catch up with Emperor Xian. In December, the two sides fought in Hongnong Dongjian.
Dong Cheng, Yang Feng and others were defeated, and there were no hundreds of officers and soldiers killed or wounded. All the female dependents were left behind, and all kinds of utensils of the royal family, such as runes, deeds, and codes, and books, were all lost. In 196 A.D. (the first year of Jian'an), Zhang Ji was short of food in the army, so he sent troops to Liu Biao in Jingzhou to plunder, attacked the city of Nanyang County, and died in the middle of the arrow.
After his death, his nephew Zhang Xiu took over the troops.
