"Through a series of behavioral experiments, we determined that the compound has a strong attraction to different developmental stages and sexes of social and dispersed locusts, and is able to respond to changes in locust population density, increasing as population density increases," Kang Le said. "Through experiments, the researchers demonstrated that 4VA has a strong attraction for laboratory populations outdoors.
Large-scale block experiments have also demonstrated that the compound not only attracts wild populations, but is also not affected by the background density of locusts in the natural environment.
