He graduated from the Department of History of Jilin University in 1986 and graduated from the Theory Department (now Graduate School) of the Party School of the Communist Party of China in 1989, majoring in scientific socialism.

In 2006, he received his Ph.D. in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, and later served as the director, professor and doctoral supervisor of the Institute of Applied Linguistics of Communication University of China. Since October 2010, he has been a distinguished professor at the School of Foreign Languages, Zhejiang University.

He graduated from Qiqihar University with a bachelor's degree in engineering in 1985, Dalian Polytechnic University with a master's degree in engineering in 1992, and Harbin Engineering University with a doctorate degree in engineering in 2005.
