I want to know more about snapshots in PS!

The Snapshot command allows you to create a temporary copy (or snapshot) of an image in any state. The new snapshot is added to the list of snapshots at the top of the History palette. Choosing a snapshot allows you to start working from that version of the image.

Snapshots have similarities to the states listed in the history palette, but they have some other advantages:

You can name the snapshot to make it more recognizable.

You can save snapshots at any time throughout your work session.

It's easy to compare results. For example, you can take a snapshot before and after applying a filter. Then select the first snapshot and try to apply the same filter with different settings. Switch between snapshots to find your favorite settings.

With snapshots, it's easy to resume your work. You can create a snapshot first when trying to use a more complex technique or applying an action. If you're not satisfied with the results, you can select the snapshot to restore all the steps.

Important: Snapshots are not stored with the image, and their snapshots are deleted when the image is turned off.

Also, unless the Allow Nonlinear History option is selected, selecting a snapshot and then changing the image will delete all states currently listed in the History palette.

Create a snapshot: Select a state.

To automatically create a snapshot, click the New Snapshot button on the History palette.

Or, if "Automatically create new snapshots on saving" is selected in the history options, choose New Snapshot from the History palette menu.

If you want to set the options when you create a snapshot, choose New Snapshot from the history palette menu, press and hold. Alt key.

and click the New Snapshot button.

Enter a name for the snapshot in the Name text box.

For From, select Snapshot Contents:

Full Document creates a snapshot of all the layers at which the image was in that state.

Merge Layers creates a snapshot of all the layers merged at the time the image is in that state.

Current Layer creates only a snapshot of the currently selected layer at that state.

Select a snapshot: Do any of the following:

Tap the name of the snapshot.

Drag the slider to the left of the snapshot up or down to a different snapshot.

Rename Snapshot:

Double-tap the snapshot, then enter a name.

Delete a snapshot: Do one of the following:

Select the snapshot, then choose Delete from the palette menu.

Select the snapshot, then click the Station button.

Drag the snapshot onto the Station button.

Snapshots are used to record actions and perform large quantities of image file operations, which is generally useless.
