The No. 1 pit is a rectangular pit in the east-west direction, with a length of 230 meters, a width of 62 meters, a total area of 14,260 square meters, and five doorways around each side. There are long corridors at the east and west ends of the pit, there are one corridor on the north and south sides, and there are nine east-west passages in the middle, and the passages are separated by rammed earth walls between the holes. This pit is mainly composed of vehicles and soldiers, and the vehicles and infantry form a rectangular joint formation.

The main body of the military formation faced east, and in the south, north, and west corridors, a row of samurai faced outward, serving as wings and guards; Three rows of samurai to the east were the vanguard. There are four rows of samurai in each cave, some wearing robes and some in armor, with chariots in the middle, and one robe and two chariots behind each chariot.

Qin Shi Huang was the first emperor to unify China, and his mausoleum is 30 kilometers east of Xi'an. In 1985, the archaeological team excavated Pit No. 1 for the second time, with an excavation area of 2,000 square meters. Unfortunately, due to the imperfection of technical equipment at that time, the second excavation was stopped after only one year in order to better protect the cultural relics.

In 2009, this archaeological work was the first independent excavation of the No. 1 pit by the Qin Warriors Museum.
