4. About the author.
Li Shen (772 846), whose name is Gongzhui, was born in Wucheng County, Huzhou (now Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province). Prime Minister of the Tang Dynasty and poet. Zhongshu Ling Li Jingxuan's great-grandson.
Li Shen had a close relationship with Yuan Zhen and Bai Juyi, and was a participant in the Xin Yuefu Movement. There are 20 songs of "Yuefu New Title", which have been lost. When he was young, he witnessed the peasants working all day long without food and clothing, and with sympathy and indignation, he wrote "Two Songs of Compassion for Peasants", which was widely circulated and recited through the ages, and was known as the poet of Compassion for Peasants.
The "All Tang Poems" recorded three volumes of his "Reminiscence of the Past Poems" and one volume of "Miscellaneous Poems", which are now compiled into four volumes. There is also "Song of the Yingying", which is preserved in the "West Chamber".
