The soldiers of the 7th Company and 6th Squad of the 13th Regiment of the 5th Brigade of the Eighth Route Army unexpectedly learned that the people would be in danger of being killed by the Japanese army on a large scale when they passed through Mashishan after carrying out their mission. So, they resolutely decided to stay and rescue the villagers.

Under the command and leadership of squad leader Wang Dianyuan, ten soldiers with different personalities broke through the enemy's fire net three times and escorted out more than 1,000 people. Seven warriors died, three soldiers ran out of bullets, and the enemy rushed up, pulling and supporting each other, singing war songs in front of the enemy, and the bullets hit them, they still stood tall and defied the enemy.

On the main peak of Mashi Mountain in the morning light, the soldiers of the sixth squad fought for more than five hours with the heroic spirit of overwhelming all enemies and relying on the favorable terrain to fight with an enemy dozens of times their size, resisted several bombing by enemy planes, and repelled the enemy's charges again and again. When the bullets ran out, they fought with bayonets and stones, and in a hand-to-hand battle with the enemy, they killed seventy or eighty devil soldiers. In the end, only the seriously wounded Communists, squad leader Wang Dianyuan, and two other fighters who were also seriously wounded, as well as the last two grenades, remained.

Just as the Japanese army rushed to the position again, Wang Dianyuan threw one grenade at the enemy group with all his strength, and the other one was wiped out with the enemy who rushed to him. After the battle, the villagers came to the main peak where the martyrs fought bloodily, found the bodies of Wang Dianyuan, Zhao Tingmao, Li Gui, Wang Wenli and other ten warriors, buried them near the flat-topped pine on the top of the mountain, and erected a monument for the ten warriors. As a heroic group, the "Ten Warriors of Ma Shishan" will always live in the hearts of the Chinese people.
