Origin of the Shoton Festival:

According to the regulations of the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism (Yellow Sect), the ban period is from June 15 to 30 of the Tibetan calendar every year, and lamas of large and small temples are not allowed to go out, so as not to trample on small insects, and can only go down the mountain after the ban is lifted on June 30.
