A few days ago, I shared with you Li Bai's six "Stoppery Songs", and today I will share with you another poet Wang Changling's "Stopper Songs: Part II".
Wang Changling, as a representative of the Tang Dynasty Biansai poetry school, has the dual titles of "Poet Son of Heaven" and "Seven Absolute Holy Hands".
The whole poem does not describe specific battle scenes, but shows the world the hardships of combat life and the cruelty of war from outside the battlefield.
Drinking horses to cross the autumn water, the water is cold and the wind is like a knife. "Lead the horse to the river to drink water, spend the autumn river, feel the river water cold to the bone, and the autumn wind at this time is like a knife blowing from the face, this is the difference between the weather in the border plug and the mainland, in the interior only the slightest cool autumn wind, in the border plug is already biting.
The flat sand is not gone, and the gloom is in the dark. The three or four sentences describe the scene extensively, the soldiers returned from the battlefield in the desert outside the Saiwai, the sun had not yet completely set, and the outline of Lintao City was only far away on the horizon. "Pingsha" refers to the desert, can also be said to be the battlefield, "gloomy" is the meaning of dim and unknown, here one is to say that the sky will be black, the other is to say that the journey is far.
In the past, the Great Wall battle was salty and high-spirited. The yellow dust is ancient and ancient, and the white bones are messy. These four sentences form a stark contrast, from the perspective of the world, the battlefield battle, heroic service to the country, the morale of the soldiers is high, full of ambition and pride, but in the eyes of the poet, from ancient times to the present, there are countless wars here, the bones of the dead soldiers are abandoned among the weeds and bushes, and they are not well buried because of the high morale evaluation, and they cannot return to their hometowns in life and cannot enter the soil in death, which is a great injustice to these soldiers who fought for the country.
"Battle of the Great Wall" means a battle that took place on the Great Wall, and here it refers to the war against the enemy, and "Xianyan" is the meaning of all words. "Yellow dust" means yellow dust, which here refers to war dust, and "foot" means to be full. "Yellow Dust Foot Ancient and Modern" means that this area of Lintao has been a place of frequent wars since ancient times, so you can often see the bones of soldiers abandoned on the battlefield in the old days.
