Bertrand Arthur William Russell was an English philosopher, mathematician, logician, historian, and writer, the main founder of analytic philosophy, and an advocate and organizer of the world peace movement. His main works include "History of Western Philosophy", "Philosophical Problems", "Analysis of the Mind", "Analysis of Matter", etc.
He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1950 and was awarded the Order of Merit. In 1967, the Stockholm War Criminals Trial Court was organized to condemn U.S. policy in Vietnam. He died at home in Wales in 1970.
Russell was not only successful in philosophy, logic, and mathematics, but also in many fields such as education, sociology, political science, and literature. His philosophical thinking changed greatly in his early and late periods, and he believed in neo-Hegelianism, believed in the existence of absolutes and co-phases, and regarded mathematics as evidence of Plato's ideas. Later, together with Moore, he defected from absolute idealism and turned to neo-realism.
Russell was a liberal, but his innate radicalism and comradely feelings against all acts of resistance made him deeply sympathetic to the struggle of socialists against poverty, so his liberalism was not classical liberalism, but liberalism with strong socialist tendencies.
As a philosopher, Russell's thought has gone through several stages such as absolute idealism, logical atomism, new realism, and neutral monism, and his main contributions are in mathematical logic, from which he established logical atomism and new realism, making him one of the founders of modern analytic philosophy.
In Ode to Leisure (1935), Russell went one step ahead of Keynes and challenged the traditional economists who always praised frugality against consumption. He wrote: "As long as a man spends his income on consumption, then he is also giving bread to other people's mouths."
Russell was an extremely important contributor to the development of educational theory. "Education should foster a desire for truth, not a belief in a particular creed that is the truth," he said. ”
