Because the Mayan pyramids imply rather esoteric scientific truths, questions arise about the identity of their builders. It has been suggested that the Mayan pyramids were built by the Egyptians on the grounds that the Egyptian pyramids were built much earlier than the Maya, and that the early Egyptian pyramids, most typically the "Pyramid of Josel" in Saqqara, also had steps from bottom to top.
