After years of wind and rain, these deep pits gradually formed the soil here, and together with the spread of air seeds in nature, a dense forest gradually formed at the bottom of the pit hundreds of meters deep, as if it grew underground. This is how the Underground Forest was formed.

The underground forest is also called the "crater primeval forest", and the area of more than 1,200 square kilometers in the Jingpo Lake area, together with the national nature reserve, is located in Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province, about 50 kilometers in the northwest of Jingpo Lake, and is located in the deep mountains on the southeast slope of Zhangguangcai Ridge, with an altitude of about 1,000 meters.

The underground forest contains abundant plant resources, including Korean pine, yellow larch, purple linde, ash, yellow pineapple and other precious woods, such as ginseng, astragalus, three.

When visitors step on the southeast slope of Zhangguangcai Ridge, go up along the mountain road, and climb to the top of the volcano, huge craters will suddenly appear in front of them. According to the investigation of scientists, after tens of millions of years of vicissitudes, about 10,000 years ago, the volcanic eruption formed a low-lying strange and rare underground forest, so it is called the crater primeval forest.

These craters are distributed from northeast to southwest, and there are 10 craters in a narrow strip of land 40 kilometers long and 5 kilometers wide. They are between 400 and 550 meters in diameter and between 100 and 200 meters deep. Among them, the No. 3 crater is the largest, with a diameter of 550 meters and a depth of 200 meters.

Starting from Jingpo Villa, you can take a car directly to the underground forest, and the transportation is very convenient. Now, visitors can not only stand on the top of the crater and look down on the wonders of the underground forest, but also step on the man-made stone path between the cliffs to carefully enter the underground forest and experience its magic. Of course, the stone steps are extremely steep, and although they are protected by iron chains, they are still very thrilling, and visitors must do what they can and not take risks easily.

Visitors descend to the end of the stone steps, that is, to the bottom of the crater. The bottom of the crater is relatively flat, and there seems to be nothing strange to see. However, if you pay close attention, you will find that there is a lava cave hidden here.

When visitors first enter the molten cave, even if it is hot, the heat will disappear completely, and they feel very comfortable. But the more I walked inside, the colder I felt, as if I had walked into an ice cellar.

About 13 kilometers southeast of the underground forest, there are several mysterious "lava tunnels", which are rare in the world with severe ice in summer and no severe cold in winter.

There are different theories about the causes of the Underground Forest, but one theory is quite plausible. According to this theory, the rocks on the inner walls of the crater have been weathered and eroded over a long period of time, and have long been transformed into fertile soil along with volcanic ash and other materials. The birds that fly over the crater with seeds of various plants become natural seeders.

Over time, the inner walls of the crater were eventually covered with trees, forming a forest.
