2. The first World Cup was held in Uruguay in 1930, and the host Uruguay team defeated Argentina 4:2 in the final and won the first World Cup championship.
The Uruguay World was the inaugural FIFA World Cup tournament to be held. A total of 13 teams from the three continental football confederations participated in this tournament, and except for the host Uruguay, which automatically qualified for the tournament, the remaining 12 teams qualified by invitation. As many European teams felt that it was too expensive and time-consuming to travel to South America, only a handful of European teams were willing to participate in this tournament.
