Gong Bin is a native of Chongming County, Shanghai. Born in May 1947. He graduated from high school in 1966 and settled in 1968.
In December 1970, he entered the Chinese Department of Fudan University as the first batch of workers, peasants and soldiers, and graduated in May 1974. In October 1978, he was admitted to the graduate school of Chinese Department of Nanjing University, and studied Chinese classical literature under the supervision of Mr. Wang Qizhong and Mr. Guan Xiong. After graduating in December 1981 with a master's degree in literature, he was assigned to teach in the Department of Chinese at East China Normal University, where he was engaged in the research and teaching of ancient Chinese literature and culture, especially in the field of medieval literature and medieval society and culture.
He retired in 2007. He continues his academic research work.
