International Children's Day is celebrated annually on 20 November. It is a commemorative day initiated by the United Nations to promote the protection, welfare and education of children. On 14 December 1954, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 836 (IX), recommending that all countries establish an International Children's Day and celebrate it at an appropriate time each year and in their own way.
On 20 November 1959, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. On 20 November 1989, the General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Since 1990, the United Nations has observed the International Children's Day on 20 November and to commemorate the adoption of the two documents.

There are two international children's holidays: International Children's Day on 1 June and World Children's Day on the fourth Sunday in April.
In November 1949, the Executive Committee of the International Democratic Women's Federation held a meeting in Moscow, at which a resolution was adopted to designate June 1 as International Children's Day.

World Children's Radio and Television Day is held on the second Sunday of December every year, and is an annual event initiated by the United Nations Children's Conference (UNICEF) and calling on broadcasters from all over the world to participate, aiming to make the world face up to children's rights and interests, and give children the opportunity to speak through communication and show the world the unique vitality and creativity of children.
Every year, more than 2,000 broadcasters from around the world produce a series of special programmes for this special day, which are then broadcast on TV stations around the world through the integration of the United Nations Children's Conference.
