He graduated from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1998 with a Ph.D. in atmospheric physics, and has been working at the National Satellite Meteorological Center since the end of 2001. He has worked as a postdoctoral fellow and visiting scholar at the Japan Space Exploration Project (EORC NASDA), CMS Meteo-France, and the University of Wisconsin (CIMSS SSEC UW-Madison). He is currently the director of the Wei Jinkong Fanxing Meteorological Research Institute of the National Satellite Meteorological Center, and has served as the deputy director of the National Satellite Meteorological Center since July 2013.
Zhang Peng has been engaged in the engineering design of meteorological satellite application system and satellite data remote sensing application research for a long time, and is the main participant in the engineering design and construction of Fengyun-3 application system, successively serving as the deputy chief designer and chief designer of Fengyun-3 satellite application system, and organizing the preparation of more than 20 engineering and technical design documents. At present, he is the deputy chief designer of the Fengyun Sanqi Belt Application System, responsible for the top-level design, engineering implementation and application demonstration of 10 remote sensing instrument products on the satellite, and has made contributions to the remote sensing application of Fengyun-3 satellite data and the promotion of hail technology.
