The elevation of the dam crest is 202.9 meters, the elevation of the top of the wave-proof wall is 204 meters, and the total storage capacity is 33.7 billion cubic meters. The spillway is on the west side of the dam, with a bottom elevation of 196 meters, a net width of 10 meters for each of the 6 holes, and an arc gate control. At the west end of the dam, there is one reinforced concrete-lined flood discharge tunnel with an inner diameter of 5 7 meters and an inlet bottom elevation of 132 7 meters.

The East Bank Dam Rear Power Plant has an installed capacity of 160,000 kilowatts and an annual power generation capacity of 5.8 billion kilowatt hours.

In order to improve the flood control standards of Foziling Reservoir and fully develop water conservancy resources, it was decided to build Mozitan Reservoir. In September 1956, a tunnel was excavated. The foundation of the dam, the layout of the workshop and the mining of sand and gravel have also started.

In December of the same year, the Ministry of Water Resources approved the start of concrete pouring for the dam. On June 9, 1958, the dam was fully concreted to the top. In December 1959, the hydropower station was connected to the grid for power generation, and in January 1960, the power station was completed.

The entire reservoir was completed in 1968.

The completion of the Mozitan Reservoir has improved the flood control standard of the Foziling Reservoir, regulated the runoff and irrigated the Weihe irrigation area together with the Foziling and Xianghongdian Reservoirs, and brought into play the benefits of comprehensive utilization. In July 1969, heavy rains flooded the dam. Before the 1970 flood, the part of the bedrock behind the dam was reinforced.

After the heavy rain in Henan in August 1975, while cooperating with the reinforcement and heightening of the Foziling Reservoir and expanding the flood discharge capacity, it was determined that the Mozitan Reservoir needed to appropriately raise the dam and expand the flood discharge facilities in the future.

Mozitan Reservoir is located 25 kilometers away from the dam site of Foziling Reservoir, with a control basin area of 570 square kilometers. The reservoir dam is a concrete dam, also known as a double-pier concrete ribbed dam. It is composed of 12 double-supported piers, 3 single-supported piers on the east and west banks and a gravity dam on the turning section of the west bank.
