Goethe. Born on 28 August 1749 in the town of Frankfurt (in present-day Hesse) to a wealthy burgher family, Goethe studied law at the Universities of Leipzig and Strasbourg, and worked as a lawyer for a short time. When he was young, he dreamed of becoming a painter, and while he was painting, he also began to create literature.
But when he saw the works of famous Italian painters, he felt that no matter how hard he tried, he could not compare with those masters, so he began to focus on literary creation. From 1775 to 1786, in order to improve the real society, he was recruited to work as an official in the Duchy of Weimar, but to no avail. In June 1786 he went to Italy, where he devoted himself to the study of natural sciences, painting and literature.
He returned to Weimar in 1788 and became the theater superintendent.
Goethe was a leading figure in Germany's rapid advance. His works are full of the rebellious spirit of the Hurricane Movement, and he has high achievements in poetry, drama, prose, etc., and his main works include the play "Getz von Berlichingen", the novella ** "The Troubles of Young Werther", the unfinished poetic drama "Prometheus" and the prototype of the poetic drama "Faust" "The original "Faust", in addition to writing many lyric poems and commentaries.
During Goethe's first ten years in Weimar, Goethe was immersed in his work and wrote very little. After arriving in Italy, he completed some of the works he had already begun on, such as Iphigenia in Tauris and Mournmont, as well as chapters of Tasso and Faust.
In his later years, Goethe wrote a wealth of works, such as the autobiographical works "Poetry and Truth", "Travels in Italy", the long works "Affinity" and "Wilhelm Meister's Wandering Times", the lyrical collection "A Collection of West and East", and shortly before his death, he completed the second part of "Faust". These works show Goethe's emphasis on practice and affirmation of labor for the happiness of mankind, indicating that the positive elements in his thinking have increased compared to the previous period. The completion of the second part of Faust is particularly prominent in the intellectual and artistic development of Goethe's later years.
On March 22, 1832, Goethe died of illness. Goethe is the most outstanding representative of German national literature, and his creations raised German literature to the advanced level of the whole of Europe and made great contributions to the development of European literature.
