One of the problems that small and medium-sized enterprises often encounter is that the computer system within the company is often separated into several units at a certain distance. For example, a company may have many computers in its office and several computers scattered across the factory, and usually a company will have an overseas office, or several company computers next door or downstairs. Often, IT departments face the challenge of connecting computers within the company.

One way to do this is to install a switch in one group of computers and connect the other computers with cables, but this does not work for groups of computers that are more than 100 meters apart, and it is expensive to do so. Especially if the company plans to increase the number of computers in the future, such a structure is troublesome when increasing the number of cables.

Another approach is to install a small switch in each computer group and then connect those switches. If the distance between the switches is less than 100 meters, you can use a regular Cat 5 cable, but if the distance is large and you don't want to spend money on fiber, then your option is to use a wireless bridge. Wireless bridges are the most commonly used small devices, similar to wireless access points, but are relatively expensive.

All managers are familiar with the Connection Sharing feature of Windows and use it flexibly in the corporate network. However, what many people don't realize is that Windows XP also has a network bridging feature, which is very different from its connection sharing. Frankly, I rarely recommend using a computer instead of specialized network hardware when transferring information, but in a small end-to-end network, the bridging feature can be a very useful solution when connecting several wireless network cards.

As long as you plug in a wireless card into a computer in each group (or multiple if there are multiple groups) and establish a bridge between Ethernet and the wireless card, you create a subnet that covers both groups, so that you don't need routing, which means that all the devices are in the subnet.

Installation can be done quickly with the click of a button, network clearing interface cards are much cheaper than access points and bridges, and wireless signals can generally be carried up to a mile away (depending on the antenna). Of course, as with connection sharing, the downside is that if either of the two computers in the network goes down, the entire network connection is interrupted, and for the same reason, the performance of each computer depends on how busy they are. Still, you're sure to feel that it's worth the money.
