Nikolai Yakovlevich Myaskovsky 20 April 1881 – 8 August 1950) was a Soviet composer. Born in Novogeorgiyevsk to a family of military engineers. He started piano at the age of 8.

From 1893 to 1902 he studied at the Nizhny Novgorod (Gorky) Army School, the St. Petersburg Military Academy and the St. Petersburg Military Engineering School. In 1903 he went to Moscow to study and sound with Glier. In 1903-1907 he served as an officer in St. Petersburg.

He died in Moscow on August 8, 1950.

Miaskovsky began composing music in 1901, and his works were first published in 1908 and published in 1910. During his lifetime, he composed 27 symphonies, 13 orchestral works, 13 string quartets, nearly 100 piano pieces, more than 120 romantic pieces, and some vocal works. His early works have a heavier tragic atmosphere; After the October Revolution, it gradually became clearer, reflecting the real life of the Soviet Union, such as the "Twelfth Symphony" (1931) with the theme of the socialist transformation of the Soviet countryside, and the "Sixteenth Symphony" (1936) portraying the image of the heroes of the Soviet Air Force.

Myaskovsky received many honors: in 1927 he was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist of the Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, in 1940 he received a doctorate in art from the USSR, and in 1947 he was awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR. His works have also won the Stalin Prize five times.
