September 20th.
In order to commemorate the establishment of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture and respect and protect the legitimate rights and interests of ethnic minorities, in accordance with relevant laws and regulations and ethnic policies, combined with the actual situation of Xiangxi Prefecture, it is decided that September 20 of each year is the anniversary of the establishment of Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture, and all citizens in the administrative area of Xiangxi Prefecture will have a two-day holiday.
Origin of the State Celebration on the Memorial Day:
Xiangxi Prefecture was established on August 1, 1952, and was divided into 4 counties from the original "Yongshun Prefecture" and the original Yuanling Prefecture, a total of 10 counties to form the "Xiangxi Miao Autonomous Region", which governed Qiancheng County (now Jishou); On April 28, 1955, it was renamed "Xiangxi Miao Autonomous Prefecture", and on September 20, 1957, it was renamed "Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture".
Ethnic minority autonomous areas may stipulate holiday dates in accordance with the customs of ethnic minorities.
At the end of 2014, the 15th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 13th Xiangxi Prefecture People's Congress deliberated and passed: September 20 of each year is the anniversary of the founding of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, and the whole state has a 2-day holiday.
Article 4 of the Measures for Holidays on National Festivals and Memorial Days stipulates that the holidays customary of ethnic minorities shall be prescribed by the local people in areas inhabited by ethnic minorities in accordance with the customs of each ethnic group. Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture is an area inhabited by ethnic minorities, so holiday dates can be set according to ethnic customs.
In fact, rolling slowly, a holiday on the day of the state day, is not a precedent in Xiangxi Prefecture. Ethnic minority autonomous prefectures in other provinces of the country have adopted autonomous regulations to provide for public holidays in addition to the national holidays in each state, including:"Anniversary of the founding of the autonomous prefecture The anniversary of the founding of the autonomous prefecture"。
This type of holiday arrangement is generally one to three days, and some autonomous prefectures can reach five days after weekend holidays. For example, Guizhou Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture has a one-day holiday, Sichuan Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture has a three-day holiday, and Yunnan Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture has a three-day holiday, up to 5 days after the holiday.
In addition to the anniversary of the founding of the state, many ethnic minority autonomous counties will also be closed. For example, many ethnic minority autonomous counties in Yunnan, such as Weishan Yi Hui Autonomous County, Jinping Miao Yao Dai Autonomous County, etc., will have a holiday on the anniversary of the establishment of the autonomous county, which is generally one day.
