The source of the Yangtze River - Geladandong Snow Mountain.
Heyuan The source of the Yangtze River has been said differently since ancient times. In some modern geographical works, there are roughly two theories about the source of the Yangtze River: one is that "the rivers originate from the same mountain", the Yangtze River and the Yellow River both originate in Bayan Kala Mountain, the Yangtze River originates in the southern foothills, and the Yellow River originates in the northern foothills.
The other is that the Yangtze River originates in the Hoh Xil Mountains. There are two branches: the Mulu Wusu River in the south and the Chumar River in the north.
In the summer of 1976 and the summer of 1978, the Yangtze River Basin Planning Office organized two Jiangyuan survey teams to conduct detailed field investigations in the Jiangyuan area to find out the water system and the source of the river. The upper source of the Yangtze River is located between Kunlun Mountain and Tanggula Mountain, where there are many rivers, the larger ones are Chumaer River, Tuotuo River and Dangqu 3. Among them, both the area and the amount of water in the basin are the largest in Dangqu, and according to the principle of "the source of the river is far away", the Tuotuo River is determined to be the positive source.
The south source is Dangqu, and the north source is the Chumar River. In the Jiangyuan area, there are more than 40 snow-capped mountains above 6,000 meters above sea level. The temperature is low, and the four seasons are like winter.
Annual precipitation is 200,400 mm, and snowfall is dominant. The average temperature in July is below 0, and only during the day under the strong radiation of the sun can the temperature reach above 0, and the trickle formed by the meltwater of ice and snow has become the initial source of water for the Yangtze River.

The source of the Yangtze River is Minshan, and Su Shi's hometown Meishan is on the side of the Minjiang River. The river surface in the area of Zhenjiang is wider, and it was called Haimen in ancient times, so it is said that "the river is sent directly into the sea".

The real source of the Yangtze River is under the Geladan Winter Ice Peak at the northern foot of the Tanggula Mountain, and its source is the Tuotuo River.
The real understanding of the source of the Yangtze River is still after the founding of New China. In August 1956, the Yangtze River Water Conservancy Committee organized manpower to conduct field surveys in Qumalai and other places at the source of the Yangtze River, and found that the Yangtze River was divided into two sources: the southern source was the Mulu Wusu River, which originated at the northern foot of Tanggula Mountain, and the northern source was the Chumar River, which originated at the southern foot of Hoh Xil Mountain.
Although it is a big step forward from the past, it has not yet found its true origin. In 1977, a Jiangyuan expedition team organized by the Yangtze River Basin Planning Office and other units came to the headwaters of the Yangtze River again, and found that the real source of the Yangtze River was under the Geladandong Ice Peak at the northern foot of the Tanggula Mountain, and its source was the Tuotuo River. This is the first time in history that the true source of the Yangtze River has been identified.

The source of the Yangtze River is in Mafei Jiri Township, Amdo County, Qinghai Province. The Yangtze River originates from the Gradan Winter Snow Mountain, the main peak of the Tanggula Mountains in the southern part of Qinghai Province, and its source is the Tuotuo River. Gradandong Snow Mountain is located in Mafei Jiri Township, Amdo County, Qinghai Province.
At present, the source of the Yangtze River is located in the hinterland of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau near the Tanggula Mountains, the Yangtze River has three sources, the southern source is Dangqu, the northern source is the Chumaer River, and the western source is the Tuotuo River. It is generally believed that the Tuotuo River is the source of the Yangtze River, and the main streams of the Yangtze River start from the Tuotuo River to the downstream are the Tongtian River, the Jinsha River, the Sichuan River, the Jing River and the Yangtze River. The Yangtze River has a huge amount of water and a large topographic difference in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River, which is suitable for hydropower development and is the "hydropower base" of China. The middle and lower reaches of the region are flat and suitable for shipping development, and are China's "best waterway".
The Yangtze River is the most abundant river in China, with a total water resource of 961.6 billion cubic meters, accounting for about 36% of the country's total river runoff and 20 times that of the Yellow River. It ranks third in the world after the Amazon River and the Congo River (Zaire) in the equatorial rainforest. The ParanĂ¡-La Plata River in South America and the Mississippi River in North America, which are similar to the latitude zone of the Yangtze River basin, have far less water than the Yangtze River, the former being about 70% of the Yangtze River and the latter about 60% of the Yangtze River.
Due to the large population of the basin, the per capita water share is 2,760 cubic meters, which is only 1 4 of the world's per capita share. The characteristics of water resources in the Yangtze River are mainly reflected in the temporal and spatial distribution of river runoff, and the surface water resources in the basin account for 99% of the total water resources. River runoff accounts for more than 96% of surface water resources. River runoff during the flood season generally accounts for 70% to 75% of the annual runoff.
The regional distribution of runoff is also uneven, with the Jinsha River and Hanjiang River systems being the least water producers, and the Poyang Lake and Dongting Lake systems being the largest.
